1. Wi-Fi and Blueair Friend App
The Wi-Fi capabilities of the Blueair 205 air purifier mean you are now able to pair your Blueair air purifier to your smartphone via your internet network. This can be done by, downloading the ‘Blueair Friend App’ from the App Store or Google Play to your iOS or Android smartphone. Once the Blueair Friend App has been installed, you will now be able to activate or deactivate night mode, change the LED intensity of the unit, child lock the unit and adjust the airflow rate. In addition to these settings, the display lets you monitor the Wi-Fi status of the unit and check the filter life indicator. According to the Blueair 200 series manual, the set LED intensity feature, changes the LED intensity of the visible lights on the unit. The night mode allows the activation and deactivation of certain settings at specific times.
2. Airflow
The Blueair 205 has a 23% higher airflow rate on the highest speed setting when compared to the previous model the 270E. Blueair has specified the airflow rates of the Blueair 205 as 127 m3/h on speed setting one, 237 m3/h on speed setting two and 374 m3/h on speed setting three. These numbers compared to the 270E which has airflow rates of 100 m3/h on speed setting one, 200 m3/h on speed setting two and 288 m3/h on speed setting three. With the Blueair 205, you can achieve 5 air changes per hour based on a room size of (26m2) and a ceiling height of 2.4 metres.
3. Display
The Blueair 205 offers touch buttons which have been ‘hidden’ under a lip-up lid on top the unit. The touch buttons allow you to alter various settings of the Blueair 205. The Wi-Fi status button, see A below, turns blue when the unit is connected to a Wi-Fi network and turns grey when not connected to the Wi-Fi network. Button B below), allows you to power the unit on/off and cycle through the three different fan speed settings available. Button C below, is the filter life indicator, which is normally blue but will turn orange when it is time to replace the filter.
4. Design and Durability
The Blueair 205 has been given a white/grey gloss finish to the outside of its steel frame, which is also impact resistant and can be wiped clean. The slim (21 x 17 x 8 inches) (53 x 43 x 20cm) design and (10Kg) weight of the 205 means it is easy to move around. As such, it can easily be deployed next to walls and in narrow spaces to conserve space.
Below is a comparison table which shows what the differences are between the Blueair 200 series range of air purifiers.
The Blueair 205 uses Blueair’s typical 'Three-Stage Progressive Filter' – a filter that resembles having several filters in one. The filter is made up out of three different levels of millions of ultra-thin fibres, and with its ‘lock-in’ design, captures and retains particles. The first layers of the filter capture larger particles like pollen and dust and the later layers capture smaller particles like bacteria and exhaust particles.
Regular air purifier filters are often thinner and consist of the same fibre size and material throughout. This leads to filters being loaded sooner and either losing efficiency or requiring to be replaced. However, the unique design of the Blueair 205 Three-Stage Progressive Filter requires you to replace the filter only twice a year.
When the filter of the Blueair 205 needs to be replaced, just open the back lid, take out the old filter and put the new one in. No screws, hooks or tools are needed and replacing the filter only takes a couple of seconds.
